살인 경례 Salute to a Murderer

육군사관학교에서 전두환에게 경의 표합니까?  비디오…

Recently, at Korea’s military academy, there was an event held which appears to honor Chun Doo-hwan, former “president” of Korea.  This man achieved an astonishing record of human rights atrocities during his political career, including a bloody rise to power, the suppression of media and voices of opposition, and is credited with the Gwangju Massacre of 1980, which led to the deaths of hundreds of democracy activists.  He is also infamous for his “3S Policy” which called for the distraction of citizens by Sex, Screen, and Sports.

The video here shows an aged dictator saluting, blowing out candles on a cake, and otherwise enjoying his time surrounded by other “나쁜” individuals representing a very bloody stain in Korea’s past.

Staggering statistics on their own, but add to them that the young man wearing the signage came himself from North Korea, and is now standing in one of the ritziest sections of Seoul, and you might just feel a little dizzy.
